Moses and Aaron rebelled against God’s Word at the waters of Maribah, as public leaders and representatives of the LORD, and so God prohibited them from entering the promised land. Here is where and how the Lord gathers them to their people on mountaintops because of their rebellion against His Word.
Everyone saw Aaron climb the Mount Hor, and saw Eleazar come down in Aaron‘s priestly garments, knowing he died.
Moses was allowed to climb the mountain and see the promised land, and he prays one last time as an intercession for the people, praying for a good shepherd to lead them out and bring them in.
Aaron may have been a picture of an elder, but Moses was a picture of Jesus, the great mediator and the good Shepherd.
