What does the quasi biblical term “discipleship” mean, and should we even be using it?
- It is an extrapolation of the biblical term "disciple" with no inherent biblical meaning in itself - if you assigned a biblically informed definition it would be synonomous with Christianity
- "Disciple" is only used in the gospels and the book of Acts - it does not occur anywhere in the Epistles
- "Disciple" is superseded by permanent terminology capturing the the fullness of the gospel (Union with Christ, Believers, Sons of God, Brothers, New Creation, etc.)
- The way the term is used today is destructive by creating two-phase Christianity, one-on-one "discipling" methodologies, and focusing on "discipling" your children instead of parenting them according to the scriptures
