The Spirit’s Sanctification Unto Obedience and Sprinkling

September 6, 2020 Speaker: Chris Greer Series: 1 Peter: Following Jesus as Exiles

Topic: Sermons Passage: 1 Peter 1:1–2

"In sanctification of the Spirit"
Sanctified-to be made Holy
Sanctification-both the initial break with the world that the Spirit brings in our lives (1 Cor 2:1-have been sanctified) and then a continual ongoing process by which we are made more and more Holy by the Lord
Set apart, for a purpose “unto the obedience of Jesus Christ”
We obey Jesus’ New Covenant commands, for He is our Master and the new lawgiver:
-Repent and believe the gospel
-First and Greatest Commandment: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength
-Second is like it: Love your neighbor/brother as yourself (1 Pet 1:22-by your obedience to the truth you have purified your soul, so fervently love on another from the heart)
-not forsake assembling together
-Love your husband/wife
-Preach gospel
-Store up treasures in heaven
-Pot sin to death
It is the Spirit that enables this obedience, walking and by led by the spirit...
Persecution, suffering & trials are inevitable for believers
Sprinkled with His blood/blood of His sprinkling. Ex 24:1-8 OT roots-establishment/ratification of Old Covenant. Pointing to a New & Eternal Covenant in Jesus, with His blood, laws, and Spirit
The Spirit is bringing about our sanctification and obedience while applying the work of the blood of Christ shed on His cross to our hearts and lives to cleanse us from sin as elect members of the New and Eternal Covenant.
