Matthew's Genealogy: The Gospel Prologue
Topic: Sermons Passage: Matthew 1:1–1:17, Leviticus 25:23–25:25, Ruth 4:1–4:6, 1 Chronicles 9:1
Gospels are Historical Narrative with a beginning, middle and end. Matthew's beginning starts with Jesus’ genealogy, and he presents the genealogy in 3 groupings of reduced sets of 14. Matthew imposed a structure on that genealogy, obviously leaving some names out, for his illustrative purpose: that Jesus has the right to be King Messiah.
