Peter points to Sodom and Gomorrah as a historic example: God turned those cities to ashes and condemned them to destruction as a warning of what will happen to the ungodly. Yet the same Lord rescued righteous Lot, whose soul was tormented day after day by the sensual and lawless conduct he saw all around him. These events are not mere ancient history; they preview the certain judgment coming on false teachers and all who reject God’s truth, and they magnify the grace that delivers everyone who takes refuge in Christ.
