Remember the cross and be diligent. Diligence is that consistent, focused effort for a specific goal. We need reminding even though we know, are established, and the truth is present with us! Peter at his restoration was instructed by the resurrected Christ to strengthen (establish) the brethren. He says it is right to remind them of "these things" as long as he lives, rousing them to remember the truth he has taught them.
