We will go through the history of Genesis at a high level, focusing on three key sections:
1. Patriarchs-1800 yrs in 11 chapters
2. Abraham-covenants, statements, promises
3. Joseph-pattern of his life points to Christ
Today, we focus on the patriarchs chapters 1-11.
Gen 1:26-28. God reigning through humanity bearing the image of God, express the righteousness of God in His creation-this is the Kingdom of God.
Gen 3:15. God’s promise - Seed of the woman has victory over the seed of the serpent.
Gen 4:1-8. Abel’s faith and sacrifice (Heb 11:4), and Cain kills Abel - opposition to God’s seed
Gen 4:25-26. Sovereign purpose preserved - Seth is born-another seed
Gen 5:21-24. Victory over death - Enoch translated
Gen 6-8. Global Divine Judgement - Noah & the flood. God is faithful to judge this world in righteousness
Gen 9. Noahic Covenant - human government to restrain wickedness in the world, no more global floods
Gen 10-11. World Order Thwarted - Nimrod
& the Tower of Babel (raw humanism & the greatness of man)
