A Chosen Race, a Royal Priesthood

February 6, 2022 Speaker: Chris Greer Series: 1 Peter: Following Jesus as Exiles

Topic: Sermons Passage: 1 Peter 2:9

Our identity is vital to remember, to put on, and  to live out of every day. We are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, reigning and ministering as servants and children of our Lord. We look closely at the word "race" throughout the New Testament and the significance of "royalty" of our priesthood. Jesus is the promised son of David, of the kingly line of Judah and the Melchizedekian priesthood. As members of His family with Jesus as a king-priest, we are likewise royal priests of God.

3 uses of “Genos” (Race) in New Testament:

  1. Human Race: Acts 17:22-31. Unique creation of God designed to have fellowship with Him, worship Him, reflecting his image and ruling over the earth
  2. Differing Ethnicities: Mark 7:26 Syrophoenician; Acts 4:36 Cyprian; Acts 13:26 Family/line of Abraham; the concept of race in the scriptures is used to designate different groups of people typically by lineage, no sense of lesser or greater in dignity or value before God.
  3. Chosen Race=Christians: New birth, origin, Race, humanity. Love-Compelled by love of one another and all the world

Royal Priesthood: Gen 14. Psalm 110.
