Abram is suffering the lack of children when God has promised to bless him and all the nations through his offspring. He does not draw away in bitter silence, but rather appeals to God in the merit of His promises to him. This is how we ought to pray to the LORD for the desires of our heart. God answers him directly addressing his expressed need.
