Melchizedek was the King of Salem (peace, Jerusalem), Priest of God Most High. His name meant "King of Righteousness" [Melek-Sadiq= King of Righteousness], and he functioned both as a King and Priest.
Priest is a mediator between God and people. He represent the people to God and God to the people.
Peace and righteousness go together-you cannot have peace without righteousness.
Melchizedek, a real historical person who was a priest and king, is a type and figure of Jesus Christ, the fulfillment of all the Old Testament types, shadows, scriptures, covenants, and promises.
