What is idolatry, its nature?
Idol-Anything or anyone you worship, serve, or love in place of God.
Ingredients: image, security, identity, autonomy, control, self love
Terminology: truth and love, creature, earthly, worship and serve, jealousy, works of man’s hands, craving & appetite, forgot God, anger, adultery
God is very serious about idolatry, and he cares about it even if you are not under active rebuke from a Christian or discipline from the LORD. He is not like us, ignorant and powerless to our presumably hidden sin. Idolatry is a deed of the flesh.
What is the safeguard against idolatry? Diligence and faithfulness to be nourished and attentive to the Word of God in the Scriptures, to remember the glory of the LORD.
