Why does John conclude his letter with this simple warning against idolatry? The purpose of John's letter is for the assurance of true believers who exhibit love, righteousness, and truth, that we would know we are born of God and have eternal life. Even though you can be sure of your salvation, you cannot let your guard down! We are still at war, so keep your shield of faith and sword of the spirit at the ready.
