John Mark, taken along with Barnabas and Saul, somehow failed them and left them to return home to Jerusalem. Paul and Barnabas had a disagreement over him later, and parted ways as a result.
Peter had a significant influence on Mark’s life, and he even calls Mark his son. Papias 110 AD (writing about what he heard in 80-90 AD), tells us that Mark was with Peter as his assistant and secretary, taking notes on what Peter taught and arranging it into the gospel of Mark, essentially Peter’s gospel.
