The history of the miraculous saving work of Yahweh should have been in the mind of Ahaz, but it wasn't. He falsely trusted in man, who failed him, rather than God. Our Hope in God stretches beyond the immediate conflict.
We dull our hearts too much with the things of this world. Seek him, in his word, and ask God to awaken a sense of wonder and who he is and his wonderful works.
